February 25, 2011
The cold temperatures this week firmed up and froze what we had left on the trails after last weeks big thaw. We had a couple inches of new snow but in most locations it was difficult to recondition the trails. Fortunately, however, there continues to be cross country skiing in Door County!

Potawatomi State Park

Conditions: Fair. Trail is rolled but no track set. The accumulation of new snow was not as great as expected and wind caused bald spots but the park can still be skied (rate fair to poor); rock skis recommended. Norway Road is groomed for skating and in good shape.

Crossroads at Big Creek

Conditions: Fair. Rolled the trails Tuesday after receiving 3" of new snow. Too much blowing and drifting resulted in many open areas or very little snow over the old frozen base. Some trails are good for skate skiing but no track available. We had a half inch of new snow on Thursday AM but not enough to help the cause.

Snowkraft (formerly Cherry Hills Nordic)

Conditions: Good. The main trails are looking good nice and smooth. One mile of very decent diagonal track, and one hill in the orchard is skiable, and the meadow is now skiable. The meadow exit in the pines is very thin, however. No rocks, but a bit of dirt. Be careful when skiing off the main trails. Main trail and much of the rest of the system is now in great condition. Check snowkraft.com for the latest updates.

Whitefish Dunes State Park

Conditions: Poor to fair. No further details.

Peninsula State Park

Conditions: Poor. We have received 2-3" of snow in the last week. The trails are not groomed for skiing. There are numerous bare spots on the ski trails, and no tracks are set. The trails are not officially closed to skiing, so please do not hike on them. Other non-ski trails are available for hiking.

Newport State Park

Conditions: Poor conditions. Hard pack and tracks still exists but icy with lots of bare spots and debris.
