Almost 50 people attended a meeting in Sister Bay to listen to the Department of Transportation (DOT) present updated information on the village’s downtown construction.

DOT construction will begin July 2015 with work on Hwy 57. Between Labor Day and Fall Fest in 2015, crews will begin reducing the slope of the hill on Hwy 42 near the Sister Bay visitor center. After Fall Fest, crews will begin work downtown.

The project will reconstruct the road from Country Walk Drive to Scandia Road along Hwy 42. It will lower the hill and realign the intersections of Gateway Drive and Hwy 42 and of 57 and 42, will add a curb, gutter and storm sewer from Country Walk Drive to Bluffside Lane, extend the sidewalks, increase the width of roadways to create a shared bike and car lane, replace storm sewers and add a storm water pipe from Bluffside Lane to Mill Road.

Real estate acquisitions are expected to begin next week.

Village’s Construction Project

Construction in downtown Sister Bay is expected to finish before Christmas, according to Tammy Kuehlmann, project manager for Donahue and Associates, the engineering consulting firm working with the village.

The current work is part of a village project to improve underground sewer and water pipes. In the spring private utility companies will begin burying overhead utility lines.
